We are so excited to share what the Lord has been doing in and through these two church communities. The past couple months have been marked by God's faithfulness and we expect to see the Spirit move continually as we become one family.
Join us as we celebrate Christmas Eve together at Balboa Community Church! At Balboa Community Church
Balboa Community Church has been marked by many faithful servants and stewards of God's blessing. We want to celebrate and honor what God has done here in the past and present while also looking to our new future. This will be Balboa's final service as they will be moving to join Communion at Marston Middle School so that renovations can begin on the facility.
This will be our first Sunday together as a new community! We will be joining together with great excitement and anticipation for our final move into our new home. Marston will be the place where we begin to be a community, but we wait patiently to move back home as a new family. At Marston Middle School
We can't wait for this day! We can already begin to dream and imagine what it will be like to move in as a family once and for all. Our move back into the renovated facility will be dependent on how long construction takes, but we hope to move in before Easter of 2020. We will have to be flexible and we will know more once construction begins.
Our mission and vision as a church will be founded on the scriptures as we look to make disciples, build authentic community, and reach the city with the redemptive message of Jesus. But we do acknowledge that the Spirit is doing something new and beautiful in our midst. We want to honor this new work by taking time to seek God’s presence before we make our mission and vision statements. Over the next couple of months Pastor Lance will be taking time away to be led by the Lord and to discern the new direction and culture of the church. At this point, whatever is discovered will be brought to the transition team and we will prayerfully consider what is uncovered. We wait patiently and earnestly to see where God propels us as we seek to reach San Diego with the good news of Jesus.
This is to be determined. We are going to be patient in making a decision on the name. There are many good reasons to keep the name Communion Church. Such as the meaning of the name, the impact and recognition it has in the community, and an ease in legal consolidation, to name a few. But we want to be careful and wait upon the Lord for continued direction.
We do believe that Sunday school is a great tool for learning and exploration, but we will be taking a temporary break from Sunday school. Marston Middle's facility makes it hard to set up for Sunday school and we want our energy and focus to be in facilitating connection and community on Sunday morning for the next couple months.
The service will start at 10am on Sunday mornings.
We will take a modern approach to our time in music with a full band on most mornings. We will integrate hymns and contemporary music as we look to honor church history and sing songs that reflect the true nature of God and His word.
The financial status of both churches is great. Each church is debt free and has healthy levels of money in savings from budgeting and a previous building sale. Our goal for the future remodel is to remain debt free by using the money in savings and fundraising within our community.
