Jesus is at the core of our existence, sustaining and motivating our behavior, and the sole source of new life. With Jesus at the center, we are enabled to become more like him and are equipped with a new perspective, defined by the crucifixion, that shapes our view of the world and scripture.
[John 14:6; Colossians 1:17; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 1 John 2:6]
We are committed to the concept of the church as God’s surrogate family. The metaphors for the church being “God’s children” or the “brothers and sisters of Christ” are used with a purpose. In an individualistic culture where the family structure has been redefined, and often times has been destroyed, we believe God has established a better family, one which all who call upon the name of Jesus as Lord is a part of and committed to.
[Mark 3:34-35; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 8:14-17]
Fullness of life is only found in the resurrected Jesus. He brings healing and restoration to the helpless through faith and peace to people living in a world full of distress. Jesus makes broken people whole.
[Isaiah 53:5; John 10:10; Colossians 2:9-10]
We are a unique community defined by the beauty of the gospel. We are an enemy-embracing, all-welcoming, and loving people who are committed to the greater narrative. In all our activity we desire to display the fullness of grace and to reveal God’s character within our community.
[Deuteronomy 4:6-7, Acts 2:42-49, 1 Thessalonians 1:3-7, 1 Peter 2:9]
In a unique capacity, we have been commissioned to serve the needs of the city for the glory of God. Service to our particular community, San Diego, is not a means to an end, but an active participation with God for the good of all people.
[Jeremiah 29:4-7; 1 Peter 2:11-17; Revelation 21-22]
